Kpi hopefully you purchased from a distributor so the support is prompt. A couple of weeks back I purchased a new AT Pro from a distributor and received it in on a Wednesday. The following Saturday I took the new AT Pro to a field to conduct a hunt. Their was an electrical issue with the unit so I was informed to send the unit to Garrett. In a nutshell two things occurred: each time I placed the machine next to me to dig a target it would automatically turn off; secondly as I was hunting and decided to change modes an uncontrollable chatter and static interference happened. Only if I turned the machine off and back on was I able to eliminate the chatter. I was in the middle of a wide open space with no cell phone, wi-fi towers or electric fences to interfere with the unit. Nonetheless we will see what happens once I get it back and hopefully they provide a new box as the one I sent them was brand new and defective. I already have the ACE 350 and have been very pleased with that machine. Fortunately the distributor has been right their trying to assist with this headache so their is a positive in this adventure...

Garthman,

I bought it from an authorized seller that I contacted here on this forum...and yes, we are already coordinating to replace it. I´m trying to get an upgrade on the shipping so I don´t have to wait another month to arrive...

I've had the At pro for a while and I run mine in pro 0 mode and iron disc at 35,sensitivity one notch below max. It's important to ground balance this machine for different conditions. Whether its wet sand,dry sand, wet or dry soil. I just came back from south jersey and this machine kicked but on the beach. Just remember if it starts to chatter you likely need to ground balance. I only use the iron audio to identify a high tone as iron as it will grunt at you if it's iron. Good luck, hope this helps. Otsego digger.

I ran with the same pro zero 35 at Myrtle Beach with zero problems. I used max sensitivity and when I ground balanced automatically I dropped it manually by 1 number. Targets were dug at 6-8 inches repeatedly and I found a silver bracelet and a platinum and gold wedding ring. I have not tried it in black sand because there is none at Myrtle but I can tell you they do work in salt water at Myrtle Beach very well.

That is weird and they shipped ants to another country? Hope you get a new one soon and let us know how it goes for you. I think they would ship very fast and free.

I got it from Treasure Mountain Metal Detectors Specializing All Brands

They gave me a discount for being a member here at this forum.

It´s worth noting that I do not blame them for what happened...I mean, things may get screwed up by the courier service after all... and the guy who sold me, Ed, seems to be doing all he can to fix things up. He´s paying for the charges on the return shippment...and I believe he´ll send me a new one today or tomorrow.

I also asked for a faster shipping method, and it seems they will provide it....Hopefully it will be delivered much faster, and I´ll be able to enjoy my vacation with the MD...

I learned one thing really fast while enjoying this hobby and that is to find a reputable distributor and stick with them. Yes Wayne, you are one of them. I did have a bad experience with NEW ENGLAND Metal Detectors and don't even know if they are in business any longer. Sure you may pay a little more but those reputable guys stand behind what they sell 100% no dancing around with them at all.

I had an issue or two with the vendor I went through, but he stepped up to the plate and shipped the detector Overnight, and my other items arrived shortly after. I do indeed hope you get this all behind you and get started on hunting out some real cool finds. I just hope this guys free shipping and gifts add had nothing to do with "free ants" Good Luck.

bzbadger,

I received the ATP last Thrusday, then on Saturday I decided to unpack and assembly it. When I removed the plastic that was involving the MD, this is what I found:

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839959"/>

Bellow a pic of the MD turned on...

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839960"/>

So, the Iron Disc numbers are not showing (only show one small part on the right), the lower scale only shows the last 2 scales, the sensitivity scale only shows the first 2 scales, the battery indicator is not shown....and I believe the inch scale is not shown either...

Also, I had a weird "surprise" on the headphones....there is a nest of ants (or termites...I could not tell the difference) IN the headphone...they´re inside the soft leather part that goes in the upper part of our head...when I unpacked the headphone, I noticed a few of the bugs...then I shook it a little bit and WOW...bellow a few pics:

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839962"/>

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839963"/>

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=839964"/>

Sad but true...:sadsmiley:

That is the most bizarre thing I've seen on here, and I've seen a lot! I hope you get it soon and have an awesome time. There's nothing worse than the anxiety of waiting for equipment in the mail, and watching for that delivery truck.

When you do get your new one, I'd start off in Pro Mode, and dig everything at first just to learn your tones. You'll learn the machine at its full potential quickly this way. Auto Ground Balance, and if its not too chattery in your area, take the Ground Balance down about 5. Sometimes I'll even go to 10 or 15 if its a quiet area. This will give you a bit more sensitivity and depth if you need it. Watch the Garrett YouTube Videos, as you probably already have. They're an excellent way to learn the machine, but nothing is as good as time in the field using it. You get back what you put in.

Good luck, I really wish you the best, and feel for you! And remember, if you don't know, ask! There are many on here that love the AT Pro and love helping others.

-Ron

Because you are new to metal detecting, and the AT Series have a learning curve, learning the audio tones, I suggest you start in coins mode. It will automatically set an iron audio for you. Set your discrimination no more than half, so you don't end up digging phantom signals. Dig all targets. Hunt for a while with iron audio on, then continue hunting with it off. Digging all targets will help define what junk targets sound like vs. good sounding targets.

Starting on a beach or playground with a sand base is an excellent place to start learning your machine. You need to develop good pin pointing technique as well as digging the smallest plug possible to retrieve a target. If you don't have a Garrett Pro Pointer yet, get one. It will locate your target exactly, cut down on your digging time and will result in many more targets.

Good Luck!:thumbsup:

You purchased a very capable detector which will at times meet and beat other detectors costing 2 x the amount and it can be used for water hunting also.

Great post John!
