If you've read my older posts, you'll know I've been hunting an old family farm for a while now. I've gotten quite a few Wheat Pennies out there, a Merc Dime, a 43 Walking Libterty Half, and after about an hour tonight of going very slow and concentrating on just a small area that I know I've been over before, I get that beautiful solid high tone, nice and soft and quiet, so I know it's gonna be older and deeper if it's a coin. Then I see a small glimmer of that nice White Silver color, brighter than the newer coins. I get it out, and it's a 56 D Rosie. I couldn't be happier! I also ended up getting a 1940 Wheatie tonight also, but didn't get pictures because it's still soaking in the Olive Oil tonight. I just can't believe this site is still producing, and I'm having the best month I've had so far, but I think I know why I seem to be finding more good stuff lately.
When I first started detecting this site, I was trying to cover too much area in too little of time. My swings were faster, my strides were longer. Tonight I took my time, and just concentrated on the sides of the concrete walkway to the door. I didn't worry about the front yard, or anything else, just that area. If I got a high tone, I'd stop, swing over it about 10 times to see if I could get a repeatable tone. If I did, I'd turn 90 degrees and try again. If that worked, even just a tiny bit, I dug it. yes, I got quite a few nails, but it produced 2 nice coins again, on a site I figured would be picked clean by now.
I'm definitely going to try this technique again and again now. I think if I go to a new area, I'll still go at a faster pace, but once you find a nicer or older coin, then it's time to slow down because you know it might be a great spot. Live and learn, I know I have over 100 hours on this machine, and I'm still learning something new every time I go out there!
I LOVE MY AT PRO and my 5x8 COIL!
I put my pro pointer in the hole with the picture to try to show you the depth I have been getting with the smaller coil. The tone was good, not broken, constant and faint. Settings were at Ground Balance -10, Discrimination at 32, and Sensitivity was Full On. Soil has been very dry lately. I did a video also with my phone, I'll post it on here if I throw it online. It's my first good find on video, so don't be to harsh on me!
Thanks for Reading and Sharing the Moments With Me, and Happy Hunting!
