I rarely am in areas where coins would be that deep, but I believe it. Ive had good coin hits pretty deep, but I dont think 12 inches yet. Its been very dry here though. I have found beaver tails very deep though, but I believe aluminum rings up more strongly.

Some of these reports of coins found at extreme depths are coins that fell from the side of the hole. The AT PRO does not PP right dead on like zero motion PP detectors.:laughing7:

But a lot depends on what coil your using and the ground conditions whether its wet or not. I just have to wonder how a recent cent got down 12 inches. Newbies always seem to exaggerate the depth. I did too I guess 40 years ago.

I'm not sure mine will do a penny at 12 inches in air. Guess I will have to give it a try.

Mine, with stock coil air tested 9" (honest and measured type inches) on a clad quarter. That is enought digging for me!
Has found me some silver where I'd already been with a smaller coil.....pinpoint is not as good, but depth is sometimes what it takes to eek out the last few coins from a worked over site.

Hey, sandman. The AT Pro, in pinpoint mode, IS zero motion. Have you tried it with a concentric coil? Might wanna put a little more time in with the machine so you know what you're talking about or don't post.

I' d be thoroughly disappointed to dig down 12 inches just to find a 1978 penny, excuse me, cent.

It was not my intention to dig for a cent, was to see what was down that far and it turned out to be a penny. People were saying that their detectors would not find coins at depths greater than 6 inches, this was to show them the facts.

Sorry, my mistake about the zero pinpointing. I still have the stock coil and won't get another coil for the ATP as I have more detectors than I can hunt with. Besides I got it for water hunting and I'd rather use Excal's, CZ's and others in the water. But I'll keep posting to help you newbies if I can.

Under the right conditions, they will go deep, and so will the coins! We have areas of sandy dark, soil here, and it's amazing how deep the clad coins, and penny's are in that soil! Yeah,it's a big disappointment to dig down that far,to find a penny,or clad coin, but it happens!:BangHead:

I dug 'em deep too, way to go. It all comes down to the soil, and once these guys get that then they will understand how you can reach that deep into the earth. The wet soil played a part in the find along with the type of soil. I hunt many locations and as I dig I make a note of the soil I am digging in because I soon realized that the type of dirt I am hunting in is going to determine my outcome. Here in NE PA a lot of sites used coal to heat their buildings, and the buried or threw the ashes all around the site. You want to talk about making a metal detector nuts try hunting in a field of ashes, it does effect how deep you will find items too.
