AT pro-overrated?

Personally I switched back from the 5x8 to the stock because of depth fears. In air tests, at least on my machine, it's far deeper. I hunt very trashy urban areas where even the 5x8 doesn't help that much with separation. I just keep the stock on and trust the tones and don't wonder if I'm too shallow anymore.

It's really just about personal preference.

They must be extremely trashy. I have a few favorite spots that I have been working for a number of years. Old school sports feilds. The trash was so bad when I first started however I have cleaned alot of it up. The 5 X 8 coil for the ATP and the 4" sniper of my F2 were instrumental in allowing me to get all the good targets out from amongst the trash. Took me longer as the coils are small but yeilded some nice finds.

I hear what you are saying though and you are right, it is all about what works for you.
