I was once hunting a park close to downtown Edmonton. At some point, I realized that my prescription glasses were not on my face. I knew I had them when I got to the site, as I can't see/drive very well without them. Funny thing, I back tracked my path and never did find them.
A year later, I lost an electronic pinpointer in the woods. I never found it either. I really hope some new detectorist may have found it and got some good use out of it......over a dog, who may have just buried it.
These days, I tend to do a quick inventory of my digger, Pin Pointer and car keys every 15 minutes or so just in case.
