Was going through some finds and found two nickles that were in bad shape and decided I would try to clean them because I will never try to sell them and wasn't worried about losing value. I used apple cider vinegar and a little peroxide. I let them soak for about 24 hours and they cleaned up good. Still can't get date off buff but shield is 1867. I would not do this to a key date coin but was impressed with results. Here are before and after pics. image-4209063599.jpg image-368870462.jpg image-1745000025.jpg image-19332417.jpg

Dang! Those shined up nice! 50/50 mix on cider/peroxide? Any rubbing required afterward?

They look killer Kodiak! I would rather have them like that than a clump of mud that you think might be one. :)

Thanks guys and it was more of a 80% vinegar 20% peroxide. They turned out better than I thought. Hey oakhunter there is going to be a metal detecting finds category this year at the fair along with arrow heads if your interested give me a pm and I'll give ya the info. They added the category this year I asked why and they said because my wife talks about how much I find in our county so the fair board decided to add it and arrow heads.

Sry forgot no rubbing at all. The vinegar turned blue I checked after about 10 hrs and they looked funky and thought I ruined them so I let them soak more. After about 24 hrs this is what they looked like.
