The manual says it works good o dry salt sand. I've used mine in wet sand. I got some crackling but the targets were deep. The AT Gold is more machine than the Pro. I tell everyone to learn the All Metal mode. But there are many good features that can help in difficult conditions.

The beach sand seems to be ever changing and I like the fact the AT gold has deeper scanning capabilities.. Maybe I have been missing the deeper targets.
I been leaning towards AT Gold after watching some youtube videos and hunted out spots with the AT Gold and recovering even more targets

You said your Ace 250 works perfect in the surf...did you mean to say sand?

This chart might help you to decide. Don't underestimate the AT Pro. It has better audio tones response on targets and CAN work in most salt water.

It works well in both wet and dry sand and the surf. Wet sand I set to jewelry mode and sensitivity to 2 and if you open the ground and the single vanishes there was nothing there to begin with. If it is still there I always find something.

Dry sand same mode minus one on the sensitivity works perfectly for me
