Water hunting today with my ATpro and the battery level was flickering. So I stopped and put in new batteries. After the instal the machine would turn off on its own. If I held the coil up in the air it would also cut off. I could turn it back on it would stay on 30 seconds and shut off. I came home and pulled the batteries and disconnected the coil in case water got in.
Anyone ever had this problem with the machine just turning itself off?
I will try to check back in when I can. Thanks!!!

Tn yes I recently had a similar problem, machine was turning off when laid down. This is almost certainly the batt pack lugs losing contact with the spring terminals inside the box. You can do a couple things. Try a wad of tissue or foam as a shim between batt pack and the batt cover that should do it. The best fix is to get a pair of long thin needle nose pliers and get down inside the brain box with a good flashlight and pull up on those springy contact things to stretch em out a bit longer. That should fix it for good.

Sounds like a connection issue with the battery. I have only had one issue with my ATP about 2 years ago, but that was the speaker cut out..but then it just "Fixed" itself..lol

I would for sure call Garrett and see what they can do if you cant DIY ..That does suck, but im sure you got some good backup machines :P

It does sound like the battery pack. I will get some needle nose and see if I can adjust the springs. I was so far back in there I was really bummed out when hiking back out. Have other machines but this is the only water one I have.
Thanks for the suggestions I will let you know if it works.

edit: To be truthful the mosquitos carried me out!

I remember a thread here a little while back where a guy had a similar issue. Turns out his batteries were in the battery pack in the wrong orientation.

It was the battery pack not seating on the springs.I puled the unit off he shaft and used some hemostats and pulled up and straightened the springs hooked coil back up and tried it. It worked as I moved it around. So mounted it back to the shaft. I may carry a little bit of foil with me on my next hunt!
Thanks for all the help you guys nailed it!

Me too Bart. We shall see how it holds up. Easy fix if you can get to it.
