I found this 1857 Flying Eagle cent today in Carlisle Pennsylvania. What is the purpose of the stamp on the coin it would have been a nice find? uploadfromtaptalk1432092740736.JPG uploadfromtaptalk1432092796797.JPG

It's still a nice find, coins are stamped over for many reasons. It might have been converted into a token for trade at a store, could have been used for gambling etc. it's got a unique history now.

Still a nice find. Could have been a Love Token coin, given to a sweetheart while the couple were separated for a keepsake. Love tokens are collectible too.
