Another method which works really well in collecting your dug up soil is to place it in a Frisbee. Some may say that is too cumbersome to carry around but to me it works better than a cloth because the lip keeps the soil from spilling over. Just putting it out there for others to try and see if they like it.

When water hunting, what is the most effective way to fill the holes? After I've recovered what I was digging for, most of the sand has dissipated throughout the area. Just use your feet to push surrounding sand in?

I scrub piles of dirt from around the hole with my shoes and try to fill it in the best I can. Most targets are fresh drops so I make shallow holes.

That's what I figured. I found a 10K Ring last weekend, and that sucker had to have been a foot down. Thanks John.
