Greetings ladies and gentleman, I am brand new to detecting and I am looking at a Sea Hunter Mark II as an all around sea air and land detector, any feed back would be appreciated. Not sure if this is the place to ask this question?

Hi Little Joe. The Sea Hunter is just that, a "in saltwater" metal detector. It weighs almost Six-pounds, and DOES NOT discriminate, so you are FORCED to dig every target. At $640.00 and only a 1-year warranty, it is not a good "all around" choice. In Example, a Tesoro Sand Shark weighs less, costs $580.00, and is warranted for the life of the owner.

There is anew Minelab coming out within the next 3-weeks, the "Equinox 600." It features a multi-frequency mode for the beach, that would cost up to $1500.00 to match. Beach it will be fine since often they are cleaner but you wont want to get around any sort of trash with it as was said. PI (pulse Inductions dont discriminate well. Holler if I can help!

Terry makes a very good point on alternatives at slightly cheaper which are better as a result of performance and Warranty like the Tesoro Sand Shark.

Now that being said if you are getting a Smoking Deal on the Garrett Sea Hunter my favorite rule applies: “ in the real world the dollar ALWAYS make the rules!”

Either one would do the job, but the sea hunter has a little more versatility, with being able to change coils and headphones, but has no volume control where the sand shark does, which is a great feature.
