Good afternoon all, this is my first post as I just joined this forum.

I recently acquired an older Garrett GTI 2500 (with Super Deep Imaging Coil) that had been barely used. The previous owner left the batteries in for years and there was slight corrosion. I bought two new battery packs and it turned on with no problem. I did have a consistent noise (constant hum) like it detected a coin. The noise would stop when I would go into the mode/scroll button to change settings but then would come back on when I would go into "operate" mode.

I finally tinkered around and the noise is gone but it will not detect any coins/rings in a test mode.

What could be wrong? Bad coil?

One other thing is that I have fresh AA alkaline batteries and have the right battery mode selected but the battery indicators shows very low battery left but everything works fine. Not sure if this is related but wanted to ask the group.

Thanks for your help.

I don`t know ....anyways in all metal Mode there should be a hum threshold...is there a hum in Disc. Mode ?
Do you have the owners manual ?

Welcome to the forum!

First try doing a factory reset and see if that cures the problem. Also double-check the battery holders for correct polarity before the reset. And check to make sure that the coil connection is tight at the control box.

A constant hum would be the threshold if you are in the all-metal mode, although in that mode it should easily detect any coin.

I remember reading something a while back and I don't know if this pertains to your problem, but you could try it.

Try tightly taping (obviously don't use duct tape; I used painter's tape) your coil wire straight on the stem for a few inches and then tightly wrap around like normal. I seem to remember this advice was for Garrett machines only.

I may be wrong but it won't hurt.

a friend of mine has one and I think it has way too many visual aspects on the screen that some folks(like me) cant quite grasp or understand enough to depend on. I am sure it all makes complete sense though :tongue3:

I had one... I nicknamed it "quarter killer".

The way I had it set... which I could never remember for it was something unintentional... would pick off a quarter in beach sand no problem at killer depths.

Few quirks with it... like keep sand from buttons... which is something you can check first if when using and starts acting funny.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the battery indicator. It always shows completely empty. I had posted this issue here but got no replies. The issue is most likely to be found on the board on which the battery cable comes in. How did you resolve your problem ?

Thanks,
Mike
