All Metal, Max sensitivity unless it begins to false, then back it down to where you are comfortable. Your machine is not a good nuggetshooter at 13.6kHz. You need a minimum of 17-kHz to get 3-gram or less pickers. Your machine will probably see a 4-5 gram piece, but not real deep. Good Luck!

I will be spending some time in Northern California, and would like to hunt for gold nuggets. I am wondering if anyone could give me advice on a good starting point on my AT Max. I would really appreciate your suggestions. Thank you so much!!

Remember to use all metal for more sensitivity and if you got a smaller coil use it for greater sensitivity on small nuggets,there's an australian guy on youtube that has videos showing tips on nugget hunting with the max and he's very successful
