Re: Here are pics of some "Must Hunt" sites.....

The first building with the two stove pipe looking things sticking out of the top looks to me like a chicken house. The hatches on the long side would be opened in the morning, there would be a ramp to the ground. This would allow the chickens to get out and wander around. At night they would return to the roost inside. The farmer then would go out and close the doors to keep a fox from getting the chickens. I would look around it but wouldn't think you would find much.

Back in the day, farmers didn't carry much money around in their pockets. They left it in the house on or in the dresser. If they were going someplace that required cash then they would go get what they needed.

I had an older guy around here tell me that when he was growing up, if someone lost a coin in the yard no one went to sleep that night until the found it. Coins can be found, but are very scarce around old farm steads.

The two stovepipe things sticking up on the roof are not stovepipes. They are ventilators. The hood on the top turns with the wind so the opening is facing away from the direction that the wind is blowing. There is a fin on top to catch the wind. Kind of like a weather vane. That allowed the wind to suck the heat out of the chicken house in the summer time, chickens produce a lot of heat, believe it or not. In the winter you had a damper to close the hole so you didn't loose the natural heat.

Not to be a downer, but, knowing Pennsylvania - what it looks like is "private".

Since you still have time before 'ice-out', if you haven't already, I'd be checking the courthouse to see who owns the areas you are looking at.

Looks interesting, worth checking out.

As Mrs. O states, who owns it? I think you mentioned you already have permission though so that may be cool.

What I did note in the pics are poured foundations and mixed foundations. The henhouse looks like my old childhood pen. From the 1930's in the case of the ones I'm familiar with, but the design/material look identical. Best to look for cellar holes and root cellars also.

If you have permission to enter these it's your best bet to find goodies if that's also allowed.

Private does not equate to 'downer'.

All but one of the locations is considered 'private'. I don't see an issue with getting permission on any of them except for the abandoned motel. THAT one may require some research/work.

Honestly, outside of the motel, none of those locations look all that amazing to me. They all seem to be mostly farm oriented, which generally equates to full of iron everywhere. Sure, one might be able to find some amazing items there, but the work put forth / random luck needed wouldn't leave me too motivated to be hunting them.

But then again, I'm not like a lot of guys on here. I don't save all of the pure garbage that many do and call them 'relics'.

But that hotel, if not hunted before could be loaded with modern silver if that's what you are in to.

those look like great spots....especially the motel and the last 2 you posted....to those of us that dont have hundreds of colonial sites lined up in our area we take what we can get.....you should be able to find some fairly old coins and relics in some of those places....good luck and let us know how it turns out

They look good to me. Being from Southeastern PA I remember lots of places like that growing up, all built on now :(

Have to travel north....

Re: Here are pics of some "Must Hunt" sites.....

Speaking of motels/hotels, I have two other locations (non pictured) that have hotels dating back to the 1850's-1860's. Still standing. Not paved around it. Long busy histories. I have hunt permission.

My third hotel location was built around 1880 and was also a speakeasy during prohibition. On the same property.....not paved anywhere around it....and I have permission already.

As for gear.....I have $550 so far towards my Whites MXT. About another month I'll have it all.

Fingers crossed !

What's a tagger?

You've seen those spray painted boxcars, fences, and buildings ? Sometimes, you'll see an either 40/53 foot
trailer spray painted.Schools gets hit too.
Some of those pics are quite colorful.
And,sometimes in gang infested areas,it's how they mark "their" territory.
This is what taggers do.
