the story..
picked my daughter up to take her to her nans.passed a skip by the end of her road, slowed down for a look in it (like i always do with skips).saw a few bits of metal so parked up to get them.
the skip was outside an old clock and watch repair shop.started to dig around in the skip finding some books(after i had taken the metal bits out that i could see).then i noticed a box, opened it up(dark by this time, lucky it was under a street light).there was spoons and forks in it.nothing unusual there til i turned them over.they were only SOLID SILVER.
that was it then.engine off, lets see what else is lurking in there.
found another box,SOLID SILVER spoons.
another box,SOLID SILVER forks.
ended up just putting big boxes of good looking stuff on my van(lucky i drive a transit)
there are loads of old clocks and clock parts, must be 2 teachests full.
got home and pulled a draw that was in the van out and brought it into mine to have a look.
there was a little box in there with tie pins and bits.
pulled out a pair of GOLD cufflinks, then another pair.
theres a box for holding sovereigns(looks silver),
a nazi badge dated 1936,
then pulled out a ladies watch, looks gold, can't be.get my eye glass out.
9ct GOLD ladies rotary watch.
went through it all,
heres the best bits.
18ct gold cufflinks
9ct gold cufflinks
9ct gold tie pin
9ct gold watch
small stud 15ct gold
silver napkin rings
silver spoons
silver forks
more silver spoons
the sort of tin some stuff was in..lets open it
silver brooches and jewelry and some costume stuff, maybe a bit of gold too
german "nazi" badge dated 1936
there is still loads of stuff to sort through but i think i've found the best of what there was.
amazes me what people will just throw away.
i think the old guy who lived there passed away and whoever cleared the place out just chucked it all out without looking through it.
