lost signals

Not sure if this is where I should post this topic,
but i need some help with my ace 250; I will
get a really good signal, dig my plug and run
my coil over the plug first and if the signals not
in it, I then run my coil over the hole and lots of
the time, the signal isnt in the hole either, it has
simply vanished.
What am I doing wrong or is something wrong
with my machine ?
Also sometimes i'll get a good signal and nothing
will be in the plug or hole, besides something that
looks like coal, could this be causing my false signal?

If you are not wearing shoes with steel toes or steel shanks then maybe your sensitivity is set to high.

if you running very high sen levels (all bars ) you might be getting falsing from minertals in the soil --the ace 250 is very sensitive--so try running about 4-5 bars instead --you get good depth and better performance overall. bu not trying to "overpoweri" the ground --the ground will only accept so much signal due to soil condition s -- running "full blast" will not increase depth and at times actually hurts the overall performance --- or you could be finding very old "rusted to bits" items -- the rust so long as its intact "rings up/" still but once disturbed or broken up -- --poof it disappears-- like magic and yes steel toed boots will cause these "magic" signals as well .

I have done this a few time with my ACE and by using a pinpointer I have found a small rusted nail. That's the onlly "real" target that has ever done me that way. The suggestion about turning the sensitivity down is sound advice too. Most ACEs run best at about 4 bars. Also, overhead highlines will cause major falsing. Look up next time. Monty

I haven't had a target I couldn't find in over a year.

Yesterday, I got one!

It just dissappeared.

It was muddy as all get out, and I looked for a long

time trying ta find it. Tried all I new ta do.

I can remember that I used ta get them sometimes.

I dont wear steel toed boots when I detect,
so it is obviously not that.
Im going to change my sensitivity , I normally
have it set almost all the way up.
Possibility of the powerline theory,
there are some over my yard.

I had that happen twice yesterday. Sometimes when the coins fall to their sides that will happen so I kept digging and using my pinpointer. Needless to say I gave up on those two holes.

I have had this with my Tesoro and find that the good signal is iron, big or small. When the "halo" breaks, the signal will dissapear. The halo makes it appear to be a bigger target then it actually may be. Hope this helps.

the "halo" is merely the former iron / now rust in the ground--- the "dissolved metal" spreads out a bit in nearby ground -- once its disturbed or busted up by digging thru it -- poof its "ghost" signal is gone -- always be on the look out for tattle tale"dissolved iron/ rust color" in the ground as you dig.

Can you post a pic of a smithereen? Do they look like can slaw...I've heard of soda cans being chewed to smithereens? I may have a few and dont know it....
