Anyone take a md on an airplane?

My husband and I are pretty new to metal detecting. We are headed to Nassau for our vacation and decided that it would be fun to take the metal detector. I called the TSA to find out the rule for taking a metal detector on an airplane and they gave me another # to call, who in turn told me to call the TSA. Has anyone here ever taken a md on a airplane and if so, carry on or checked baggage. Thanks.

Many times. Pack the shaft of the detector and the diggers in your checked luggage. Carry the electronics in your carry on. Only once did they give it a second look.

My buddy just got back from France with one of mine. He said he put it in checked baggage both ways and had a sand scoop with it..

Break it down and take it as carry on. Do not put it in your suit case as they may damage it. just watch on how they load a plane they just toss the luggage load the plane. Make sure you put your digging tools in your suitcase and do not carry them on as they will take them as being weapons...Matt
