What is your best find at a yard sale that you paid little for and resold for big money??? I will get it started with a couple of my own.

Last year I went to a community sale and the first house I went to I was looking around and noticed a zip case on the ground. It had a piece of paper on it that read "detector $100".I opened it up to see the most beautiful White's Silver Eagle I had seen.It was unused and included the rechargeable battery,charger,c-cell holder, all original paperwork, magazines, white's towel, white's hat and protector for the detector and display.I about had a heart attack but dumb me I asked the lady if she would take $75 for it.She said it belonged to someone else and preceded to call him.He said he wouldn't go lower than $90 or otherwise he would just keep it.I said sold and ran to the car to get my cable bill money.Needless to say the wife had attitude with me all day for spending that money until I got home and listed it for sale and sold it same day for $350.

My other one happened 2 weekends ago.I was about to finish up with sales cause it was after 1:30 and most sale were ending when I went to a moving sale.It was run by 2 old women. As I was walking uo their driveway into their garage I noticed a box of costume jewelry and noticed a really nice necklace.I picked it up and it was a diamond cut rope with a heart pendant with 3 different gold colored roses on it.I palmed it and picked up one of the cheapo rings in the box and asked the old lady what she wanted for the jewelry. She said "oh,I don't know..how about a dollar"..Then she asked the other lady how much for the jewelry and she said "whatever you want to sell it for".I said ok and preceded to look around and got my kid an old phone and the necklace.Got home and weighed it and it was 9.1 grams of 14k.Took it to one of those payday loan places that buy gold and sold it to them for $100.

My sister was able to pick up a bracelet at a sale for a quarter and brought it over to show to me.She said it was gold plated cause it showed 750 on it and she said it must be plated since silver was .925.I said no way...that is European for 18k gold....we forgot to weigh it but she is suppose to bring it back over sometime but it was kinda heavy.

So now I want to hear of you good deals......

I once found ten "how to" videos at a yard sale for, I think it was $2.50. I made about $100.00 on Ebay.
Bought for a quarter each, sold for about ten dollars each.

church bazziar sale -- theres a bunch of most "costume" gaudy old jewelry with a sign 25 cents each but a few catch my eye so over I go -- I checked for markings / tag or clasp marks -- yep (3) 925 type items and one 14 k gold one -- $1 later -- I had a 14 k necklace and (3) 925 silver ones -- I gave em out as gifts over time -- I checked online the day I got em just for "giggles" --- using one of the silver necklaces--it alone was listed at 19.95 plus shipping and $5.95 handling on a website (would have cost me $25.90 to buy it retail) -- so 3 -- about $25 dollar each silvers and 1 say about 100 buck gold one --- $175 buck worth of value for $1 -- not bad in my book.

I went to a moving sale (last day) and brought a 3 months old refrigerator and 3 month old matching gas stove for 75.00 - still with the 5 year warranties.

As I was leaving, I saw this box with a few measuring tapes, etc., all broken up (the box), and asked how much - she said a buck, and I bought that too.

Got it home, and under all the tape measures was 58 pieces of expensive machinist tools, in super shape. After checking on Ebay, the 58 tools were worth about 500 bucks.

So, for $76.00, I got about $1200 worth of things - I really liked that!

Two weeks later, at an estate auction - I came in late and didn't really have a chance to look, and saw two matching recliners - bid times 2 deal - got them both for 20 bucks. When I got them home, we took off the old looking covers, and they turned out to be pretty near brand new, tags still on both, each worth about $500.00 - new.

It also turned out that they were heavily padded, brand name, 4 position recliners, brand name recliners. We were going to sell them, but Mr. O loved them so much, we kept them :icon_thumleft:

I found an old medical syringe kit...its over a hundred years old at a garage sale, payed $2.00 for it...Its in a small wooden box covered in purple/blue velvet looking material, inside is the old metal syringe with screw on needle, and a small glass vial that still has the morphene tablets. The Lady who sold it to me was a retired nurse, and an old Doctor had given it to her.

Same garage sale, i bought one of Websters first dictionarys, got it for $3.00. Its about 6 inches thick and so old you have to be really careful with the pages because their so fragile.

Private estate sale, purchased box of fountain pens, Payed $1,000.00 Sold the waterman floral 504, and a moore safty (fountain pen) for one cent short of $16,000.00. Ah the bad part is I had folks with me so it ended up a split.. Still was a great deal.

On same note, was an an estate sale, gal I knew had just purchased a bitters bottle for $32.00. sold the thing for $13,500.00. I wish I had beat her to it, LOL. Like I had a clue on that one.
I admit she out did me.
Keep looking folks it is out there.

most bitters are not that valuable. Wish I could remeber the name on it.
As for the pens, the waterman 504 floral reprouse (speeling) is the expensive one. I estimated about a grand, I was wrong is was over 12 grand. Damn rare pen.

My best yard sale find was Marantz stereo equipment. I when to this sale and they were selling this old tube stereo with receiver, amp, equalizer, record player, tape deck and speakers. The brand was Marantz, I had never heard of them. They were asking $40 for everything, Not knowing what it was I offered $25 and they said ok. I get it home and look it up on ebay and this stuff is worth some big $$$. So I list each item on Ebay and they all end up selling for $2700 :headbang:. I got $1600 just for the amp. Most of it went Japan. I ended up taking the family to Disney for a week on it.

Found a set of wheat cents that had mostly S mint marks with a few key days. I paid three dollars and three of the penneys were worth just over one hundred dollars each. And a few worth thirty to sixty dollars each.
