I have a partner who has used his DFX at the beach on the coin program and it worked, but he prefers using his Excal.

Rremember even though you don't get in the water, there is salt spray in the air, be sure to completely cover the dfx or take a change you will cause problems.

The DFX will find coins and rings at the beach, but like Treasure Hunter said the conditions are rough there and the detector can be damaged. Better to go with a water detector. Some like the Beach Hunter ID 300, but they are known to leak, however if you aren't going in the water that won't be a problem. I mainly use my Excal.
