Dirtymike, if you give a button like that a good cleaning with peroxide first to get the tough crud off, all the green will be gone after the jelly treatment. When you go to something harsh right away you often can't get 100% of it off because exposure time is always on your mind. Also, the peroxide is a very good test to see if there's enough gilt to want to use something like the jelly. After the hp brush and soak, if you determine the button is better with a green patina you just continue to clean but let air dry. It's a good step because some buttons are a total gamble to use the jelly on, and an even green patina is often much nicer than randon spots of gilt.

Where in the world do you find aluminum jelly, all I can find is Naval Jelly for iron. Have you tried searching local hardwares and box outlets, the stores tell me that it has been discontinued.........NGE

ace hardware stores

was wondering if navel jell would work on coppers?

Ace is the Place that told me it was discontinued, so I went to Lowe's, Home Depot, Sears, all said it was discontinued. Only reference I saw about it was online and it was really expensive plus shipping it was something like 25 bucks for 4oz. :tongue3:......NGE
