I am looking to find out some general information from all you shop owneers out there especially those of you that may be into Army Surplus. I want to open a surplus shop/outfitters and I have a perfect location with an endless amount customers with cash to spend. I am familiar with retail business somewhat and I understand the needs of the people that shop at surplus shops (especially my customers) but I have never been in this particular industry. I have some basic questions.
Where do people go to buy (wholesale) for this type of retail shop?
Is there any group purchasing done? (clubs, groups, business organizations)
Are there any organizations specific to the industry that can help?
Are inventories in this industry always cash up front or are there options for buying stock?
Im just now doing my research and I am trying to track down the information to start looking for ways to stock a surplus shop. Im truely sitting on a gold mine here and after I find these answers I will finish my plan. I may have to go about this on very limited funds to start but I think that I could work this out. Thanks for the heads up for those that can help me.
