In a book, magazine, paper, etc.? Let's hear about it!

I've never been the type to submit stories to the magazines, or talk to the newspaper and the like, but I have a few. In about 2002 there was a large relic collection on the cover of Western Eastern and there was a very small picture of a button I had dug included in the shot. Another is a rare local token that will be in a book that will probably be released in the next year or so. I've also supplied a member of the British button society with some info. for a story on some Navy buttons found here, as well as my Rosa Americana Twopence being in an edition of the Colonial Newsletter. Not much, but even with that short list I near forgot the last two!

Sometimes I think I should have entered some finds for Western Eastern's best, or at least wrote some stories as they would be great to look back on. I think this year if we happen to hit a killer site I might just do that!

In August, 1973, I had an article published in Old Bottle Magazine about Hires Root Beer bottles. I was in high school then. We lived in the country and there were abandoned farms on almost every corner. Spent a lot of time diggin' for old bottles.

My second article was just in March E/W Treasures about a WWI bracelet I found and returned to the soldiers son.

Over the years I've had quite a few things in magazines , books and new papers. Some of the mags were North South Trader, and American Digger. A few of the books are Bullets Used In the Civil War and Excavated Artifacts both by Stanley Phillips and Confederate General Service Accoutrement Plates by Lon Keim. I've also had input on other civil war publications as well. One being American Buttons Makers And Dealers by McGuinn & Bazelon

Last year (2009) was by far my best year for finds and articles. Two magazines and two newspapers. Having those article on hand when you try to get permission to new spots really helps too. :icon_thumleft:

P.S. I tried to get into the Playgirl mag too, but came up short. :dontknow: :tongue3: :laughing9:

As a general rule, I'd encourage you to write up your finds, and in fact write anything of interest and send it in - - either to a newspaper, local tabloid, or even the W&E Treasure magazine. They are ALWAYS looking for good articles.

Just be sure your English and grammar are up to speed.

I just got one of my own articles published, and I can tell you it's a lot of fun, not to mention the service it provides for others.

V

I just got mine published in the March issue: "Top Ten Pleasures of Metal Detecting."
