Some Native American guy wrote a book on how to train dogs to find currency. He said you gotta start em off as puppies, etc. Currency has a distinctive odor especially when wet. He claimed to routinely find wallets and the like at beaches.

I tried some cursory Googling and couldn't find it right off. Suggest you write/call maybe Mark Parker at W&ET etc. or Kellyco or some other book dealer. I did find out there are services that will train dogs to do this, for a very stiff price.
