About 20 years ago me a buddy was driving through Fort Morgan Al which is 12 miles from where I grew up and I had my detector in the trunk of the car. I wanted so bad to hunt the grounds but I knew it was not a smart thing to do but being young and dumb I told my buddy to drive behind one of the buildings where there were some woods in the back. I jumped out of the car once we were out of site and ran into the woods and with in one minute I had a hit and dug a piece of cannonball. I ran back to the car and we left the park. I would not ever do that again but I sure wish I could go back in time and hunt it before it was illegal. My father hunted it once back in the 60s and said he could not hardly swing the detector with out digging minnieballs or shrapnel but that was all he found. He just left that stuff on the ground because that stuff were common surface finds back then.Even when I was a kid we used to find minnies on the ground from time to time.
