One of the best ways to keep from getting chiggers is to take a bleach bath as soon as you get in from the field. Garlic and vinegar in your diet help. Flea and tick collars around your ankles. Bug spray, sulfer powder sprinkled in your clothing helps a lot too.
Just washing off in the shower or soaking in a lake helps a bunch.

What works for me is to take some Benadryl. It is an antihistamine and will control the itching. Works great also if taken before you head into tall grass.
