geting into MD Detecting and any info on the kind of MD to get

When I was younger I went out with my grandfater a few times around where he lived becasue in the area he lived it was a place where outlaws like the younger gang and bellstar would hide out and supposidly they had hid some of there loot around there somewhere.
We found a few small things and found a few indian relics like arrow heads and a stone they used to ground there corn and stuff. never found any hidden loot but there was a few spots that were too deap for us to dig. Resently I thought I would like to get back into doing some Hunting again since I had so much fun with him when I was younger.
Im looking for anything even meteorites since some of the places I am going to look at were known to have a few fall there. The catch Is I only have around 200.00 to 220.00 tops for a detecter and was wondering what kind of detecter should I be looking to get for that price that should be the best bang for my buck?

The dollars you have available to spend puts you at an entry level detector. All of the major brands have entry level detectors. Browse the MAJOR BRANDS and decide which one of those detectors best suits YOUR needs then find a dealer to buy it from. Do not decide by letting anyone on this forum tell you to buy what they have. Especially if they own one or two detectors.

Joe said it all. Stay with the American brands. These companies will take care of you if something happens to break. Other than that, make sure to buy what you like and will use. Compare features, prices, and available accessories. Pick what you are most comfortable with as you're the end user. There gets to be Ford vs Chevy arguments with the question of what to buy. Just enjoy and have fun, that's the most important thing in my book.

I agree that the Garrett Ace 250 seems to be a very popular entry level machine. I have never owned one but I do see a lot of people using it and finding some great stuff.

I had 3 detectors and did not have a clue of what they were telling me. I got an ace and learned more from that detector than anything. plain simple easy to use machine. I have found several good items with the ace. My wife used the ace for a while and she also learned all the basics from it.
I still have the same ace and lend it to many friends who wish to join us for the day and they enjoy using it.
I am not trying to sway anyones mind on which machine to purchase for a beginner but from my own experience no one could go wrong with an ace.

The Whites Coinmaster Pro is my suggestion. You can save a few bucks and get the Coinmaster, but it's well worth the bucks total of $280 suggested retail for the Pro version. If you shop local dealers and/or go with a used Pro, you'd likely hit your budget target. The only thing I hear complaints for on the Ace250 is the pinpointing. They sell a neat package that gets you the Pro Pointer included with the Ace250, but you are now looking at $330. Their pinpointer is the best! and makes up for the deficiency in the PP of the 250. martin

I own 9 machines. Some are very specialized. The Ace 250 is a good starter. Its simple out-of -the-box operation almost guaratees success. Early success does much to keep the md in the field and out of the closet. Whichever you choose, use it. It can collect coins or dust! Your choice. Good luck. TTC

I want to thanks all of you that gave me opinions. I pulled the trigger on my first one. I bought the Garrett Ace 250 from kellyco. It came with a Automax V4 Pinpointer for 25 extra and choice of 1 of 2 free Accessories packages. I chose option 2 with basically the only thing different was the a daypack and the type of headphones. I the one I got came with a of treasure hunting state by state which I figured would be something usefull or at least informative a little. didn't;t need the day pack even though it looked cool. I Would have waited a day or two longer to make my purchase but I talked to a guy that dose or did some small time hunting around our area who had a ace 250 and he showed me his. I figured for the price I got it at and to be tech about it I basically got it free since I stopped at a casino and hit almost the exact cost of it including shipping I figured what the heck. Now I guess I need to start planning some hunting trips while I wait.

I defently will. Just have to find some sites to hunt now. Going to practice at a relitives house first off and try to get permission to hunt around my apartment. Alot people and kids play around my apartment Im sure they have droped a few things over the years lol. After I get use to using it I have at least one place thats 4 or 5 miles from a historical fort that I belive is civil war that I can hunt at . If I do find anything there from that era I may donate some to the fort museum since its a tourist thing And Im kind of a history person and it would be awsome for other people to get hooked on collecting history stuff or even geting into the history of things from something I found.

The only other article you need to invest in is a good digger. Lesche is among the most favored and you can buy them off of Ebay. I've tried other diggers, but this is the only one that really works for me.

The ace 250 I bought came with free items and One was a free digger Not sure how good of one but it should work until I learn what im doing. One of the things I am worried about is digging. I would like to learn to dig a plug and put it almost back just like it was so I could tell a proporty owner where I would like to search that there would be no damage while I search to hopfully get a yes you may search here insted of a no. I would hate to get a yes search here and dig and destroy there land with a ton of holes becasue I may want to search again there sometime. Besides learning my detecter digging is one of my top things to learn.

One more thing... alot of guys and gals (myself included) won't put the car in gear without first putting the seat belt on, yet we will repeatedly stick an ungloved hand into a hole just dug with the possible glass or sharp iron junk awaiting us! Why is that? I don't know, but please use your noodle when you're out with the kids. TTC

hit a local playground for a couple hours and practice, theres always clad change and a fair share of junk targets so this way you'll get to know the machine and what to listen for. the best practice is time on the machine. ya can't go wrong with a garrett, great easy ta use machines right outa the box and great customer service. as far as the digger...if it's the composite digger throw it in the trash and get a good stainless

I get it tommorow sometime Im going to be doing alot of practice at first at a relitives place and At my apartment complex before I head out into the public. A ton of kids and people play right infront of my apartment so there should be plenty of things to find there. I plan on getting some good hours practicing tommoro at the relitves house and maybe spend a few hours in the evening at my apartment. I am already looking at diggers because the one that is free they are sending me is the non-matalic composite. I may have one at my relitives house anyway or I hope I do it the one I have dosen;t work well. Or I will see if lowes has some.
