probably no one will answer this question! Private property is good or going on a hunt that is planned for large numbers of hunters on a large farm. There are several of those but the only one I know for sure is called Digging in Virginia.

Good luck on this! The Cardinal Rule to most folks of Metal Detecting is never share your good spots. I for instance I found a Virgin site years ago and told another enthusiast detectorist about it. It got cleaned up within hours by everyone and their dogs.
I just checked the Virginia forum out, one fellow sent another fellow a map/ link to some hot spots. Look at the replys he got on his post. Now see what I mean.

I will give you a straight and honest answer.
If you want to hunt in Virginia for Civil War relics, you will have to do your own research
as to where armies marched, fought and camped. Where
were the turnpikes and thoroughfares back in the 1860s.
Once located, then you will have to go knocking on doors.
People go through a lot of trouble locating such sites
and they are seldom willing to share any information, even with each other.
