That is just so weird. Apparently the battle site I go to, all the soldiers must only had 2 ringers.

Actually, if you're doing more than just collecting bullets, like say piecing together who was there and the history of the place (which is really what relic hunting is about anyway) you'd know that what you're finding is a strong clue to who was there. Its sounds to me like you've either found a cavalry camp or a small cavalry engagement as that's who typically carried Sharps carbines. Carbines are shorter than a musket and easier to fire from horseback. Other items you find there can also help with putting together the context of what occurred there.
