Well, hello everyone. I got a metal detector two years ago and played with it for a few weeks and then it went into the garage and hasn't seen the light of day. In my short md'ing career I really did not find anything of value or interest - so I never really got motivated enough to hunt anymore.

Then last evening, just before dark, I went to the garage on an errand for my wife and it was like the metal detector called out to me. Just for kicks lets see if the batteries still work and lets see if I can find some trash ;D.

Anyway, I went into the neighbors yard (vacant - it is for sale) and began md'ing. Nothing for about 5 minutes, but then i got a hit. I began to dig and felt my spade hit something hard and fairly large and fairly deep as well. When uncovered it wasn't a cache or anything remarkable but it was fun.

I pulled a clear 7 oz glass bottle with a hostess wrapper inside it that read "Hostess Breakfast Cake", which I cannot find a hostess product by that name and the bottle is a "cute" bottle.
Like I said, very uninteresting - but I asked my wife about the history of the house and she said it is about 60 years old and it was fun just imagining someone having a snack in that very place 30 years ago, anyway I am going back over there today to see what i can uncover.

Ha - if I find something good I am heading to my 2.5 acre lot. I live in Greenville MS and this whole area was wiped out by the Great Flood of 1927. From my understanding - finding anything pre 1927 is a crapshoot, simply because stuff got scattered everywhere. Hard detecting and requires major patience - not many honey holes just alot of random finds. I do own 2.5 acres of land close to the Mississippi River - I can hit the river levee with a BB Gun - It is in plain site from me. I have never MD there - because I thought it would too random of a spot - it was completely undeveloped until the last 20 years. I have been recently reminded that because of the flood and the proximity to the river I might just find something in that little random spot...who knows?
