Just wondering if the airport/police type wand metal detectors are any good for pinpointing/searching. I have one that I picked up, and it's got a couple of different sensitivity settings. Without a manual or anything I don't know if it would be any good over a few inches (typically all it would have to do through clothing).

Just wondering if anybody has used one of these devices and had any success or not...

Actually, I have tried that. We got an off-duty job working security at a club one night and they gave me one of those to use at the front door. It would work ok on the body scan as it detected knives, large amounts of change, and big ol' belt buckles. When things were slack, I tried it in the gravel in the parking lot. It didn't seem like the signal was focused enough to find enough like a single coin. That was about 15 years ago though, so maybe technology has improved. I think I would stick with a pinpointer, which is made for just that purpose, to pinpoint.
