If the coil cord is properly secured with a little xtra at the coil it appears that you have a short in the cord near the coil. Also if you are using a coil cover( i never use them) make sure there is nothing between the cover and the coil. If you have another coil or can borrow one you can verify that it is the coil cord

It could be a bad coil. Those things happen. But, before you send it in...

It could be a lot of metal in the ground you're hunting. That 12" coil covers a lot of ground and isn't suitable for really trashy areas. If you can, try going over the same area with a different 12" coil. Then, try a 4X6'' DD coil or the 5.3" coil & see if things don't settle down.

Obviously, if the different 12" coil takes care of the problem, yours' needs to be exchanged. If the response is the same out of both 12" coils, but good with the smaller coils, you need to use a smaller coil where you hunt. If the problem persists with all coils, box the machine with the original coil, and send it back to Sweet Home for repair. Be sure to give a thorough explanation of what it is doing and the checks you have run.
