for the beginner, I would highly reccommend the Ace 250. it's a turn on and go machine, but has the get up and go to find great things. it's also relatively light so an 11 yr old can use it with no problems. it also costs around 215.00 on line
good luck and let us know what happens

Teknetics is Fisher's sister company. They are have really good detectors that are light. I have a T2 SE. The battery life is also great on that line of detectors. With whatever you go for, go for the best in your price range. Some might be more user friendly, but lack in other fields. Any detector will take time, and I mean a good while to get really used to it, and find deep old coins. Watch some user videos on Youtube on different ones to get an idea. Good luck in your hunt.

I agree with Sniffer and Lookindown, the Ace 250 is a great beginner and more machine, even Felinepeachy could use it, and she's only 4 foot :laughing7:

Get him one that won't matter in 2 years time when he discovers girls!! Store it in tha garage afterwards though, because he'll discover it again when he's about 46 and struggle using it for 3 more years before people on a forum like this convince him to buy a new model! ;D

Hammered - You're dead! :laughing9: (At least she had an Etrac. Not some cheap stuff like yours! lol :tongue3: )

Fisher F2

I got one as a backup to my Minelab 705 and Etrac...

I used it a few times out and it really nails the coins! You can turn the sensitivity up high, makes it kinda chatty, but it goes deep! The pin point feature is dead on! direct center of circle! And they gave it a 'lightsaber' sound, which is actually pretty cool. Great display too, and light as a feather. Compare weights on KellyCo's sight. good place to side-by-side compare...

I am sure the Ace's are good, the Technet's are good, but Fisher did good on this one. very simple machine too!

-turn it on
-set what you want to disscriminate out
-set your sensitivity
-start swinging!

What the F2 made me do, was also want to try an F75 now!....LOL.
