:headbang: !!!Garrett ACE 350!!! :headbang:

I decided to go with the Garrett ACE 350 after going to a local metal detecting shop and meeting the very enthusiastic and friendly owner Ron Shore. I asked a great deal of question to which he answered very professionally, then after seeing how excited i was he threw in a free book about called metal detector for beginners. He also told me about the Midwest Historical Research Society that he is in, they basically go on hunts together as well show their cool finds, I'm going definitely going to join after what i found today. This may not be that great compared to some of the things you guys find but to me this is amazing, I'll post pics up as soon as i can!

My First Backyard Find

2 Silver Quarters 1945 and 1941
4x Buffalo Coins 3 with no dates 1 dated 1936
1x US 5 Cent coin the date is 1822!! *has a small hole in it, i think someone might have tried to make this a necklace*

Today has been amazing! I can honestly say that I'M OFFICIALLY HOOKED!!! I have a question tho, I practically started MDing as soon as i assembled the MD. Should i mess around with the sensitivity or discrimination? Also sometimes i get a hit and i keep scanning back and forth to get a pinpoint but then its gone. whats the deal with that? I know i still have a long way to go, I'm still a noob :laughing9:
but if anyone can chime in that would be cool. I just figured maybe i need to calibrate the sensitivity and discrim, but i don't want to mess with anything yet until i properly know what I'm dealing with. Again this is a great site, I'm sure one day i'll be able to contribute to it like many of you have.

Hi I'm Bob and I'm a metaldetectoraholic, Welcome to the meeting :icon_thumleft:

That's an awesome start. WTG

Sorry don't know much about the Ace machines, but judging by others they do well. The only thing I would suggest is keep going in your yard until you clean it out. Keep the discrimination where it is until there are no more good targets. When this happens ratchet it down a bit and dig all the targets. repeat. This will help you understand what your machine is telling you and help you predict what you will dig and what the targets sound like. I would also slowly increase the sensitivity as you do this for maximum depth as long as the machine doesn't get too hot. A good target at 2 inches may not sound as nice at 10 inches.

Most importantly, when in doubt, dig it.

Looking forward to your today's finds posts

Can I come search in your yard? Those are wonderful finds for any MD session.

There are several reasons you'll get a hit once and can't repeat it. It might be at a weird angle. It might be right at the edge of your descrimination settings. Or as gold is all over the place, it might be a little kid's 10K ring. As you learn your Ace you'll learn how it responds to little things like that.

I have several detectors, one being an ace 250. One suggestion... you might want to pick a a plastic scoop from a feed mill supply dealer. They cost about $5.00 and the one I have I drilled holes in it. Very small holes at front with progressively larger holes as you extending outwards. Great for sifting sand. The reason for the plastic scoop... the object is either in the scoop or still on the ground. Hope this helps you out.
