Garret At Pro compared to others.

What really sets the Garrett at pro apart from detectors such as the White's VX3 or Minelab Safari? I know the VX3 and the Safari appear to have more functions but do they really have much more ability to find objects? Such as reading deeper into the ground or being able to identify targets better? I know a lot really has to do with the user but just wanted to know if there was much more noticeable difference in these detectors.

I'm sure this question has been answered in some form or another on the forum but I just wanted to ask again.

Can't really compare the two. The VX3 is about 2x the price of the AT Pro. At Pro is plenty of detector for a starter. Don't forget to check out the G2 (Teknetics/Fisher) which is the same price range and the Omega 8 if coin shooting is going to be what your using it for 90% of the time. They're ll good, just which one is right for you. Each masnufacturer has tons of reading and info on their models. Just go to the site and look it up for yourself and decide. You can't go wrong starting with an AT Pro. Shop around hard for the best deal, Bart's Big Boys Hobbies was the best deal I found.

Give us a call toll free if you need any help with anything. As mentioned above, the AT Pro is a fine machine, but there are others you might consider as well. I'd be glad to help you sort it out.

Re: Garret At Pro compared to others.

I have a Garrett AT Pro. The visual ID is very accuate, but small and hard to read. I was detecting a park detected hundreds of times. After awhile I got a loud beep. High tone on multiple passes. It showed #s 80-85 (dime range) & was reading about 8", dug down 7" & there was a clad dime! Very accurate ID on deep coin probably lost 20-30 years ago.
Air test solid beep & high tone on dime at 10", STD mode.

Most detectors I've had can't ID coins very well in my soil beyond 4"-5".

I also have a Minelab Safari I haven't really used yet. Tried air test on dime, about 11.5" but nearly all tones were low or middle tones. The numerical ID was off just slightly. On my clad dime buried at 5"+ & slightly tilted, mostly mid & high flute-like tones, an obvious goodie.

Also have a Teknetics G2, same innards as Fisher Gold Bug Pro DP. It has modulated audio, so in air test a dime just whispers at 10". On my clad dime buried at 5"+ & slightly tilted, visual ID is back & forth between zinc & dime. Best wishes, George (MN)
