Found USMC dog tags. Any idea how to research to return to family?

Are you asking for assistance in locating the Marine or next of kin OR are you asking for how one goes about doing this process then you'll be doing it from scratch? If you are looking for assistance, then disclosure of the serial number would come first.

A good start would be to go to the official Navy website. If no means for tracking, leave a message in the "contact us" button. There may be very greatful people looking for those tags. If the number on it is a SS#, then the tags are relatively recent. I went through when the old serials were still used. In '67, I was 2382032. TTC

Thanks for the input. I suppose I'm looking for any help at all. Both in the process and search. From your responses, it seems okay to list the ID number.

It is 244 78 67 01 A

I'll check the USN website also.
