Nothing wrong with that. If they could find the right archeologist then that would really be special and worth watching...i.e, "the best of both worlds". But I doubt they could get any of these archeologist to go public with that support.
It wouldn't have to be about making a buck, it would be nice to see how the other side works and thinks and maybe help them understand that for most of us finding items worth money is nice but holding something in our hands that hasn't been touched by anyone in 50, 100 or a 1000 years is by far a greater thrill. There are opportunities out there for detectorists to work with them, but with the other show on tv making us all look like money grubbing buffoons you are probably right that finding one willing to be seen on a show might border on the impossible.

I'm thinking if this show really wants to get the upper hand over the competition, or any other show of this type for that matter, it's going to have to do something truly groundbreaking. Archeologist would be stunned by the support they would receive from the treasure hunting community if they would just return that support. If just one of these new shows could put that together then they would really have something. Treasure hunters supporting archeologist in the field isn't anything new, been done before a number of times. Obviously these shows didn't exactly stimulate the ratings. On the other hand, I've never seen a show where archeologist are fully supporting the efforts of treasure hunters. That's my suggestion.

I've never watched the show, and will not. Enough people here have watched so I get the gist. If you must have a show, how about NEVER talking about how much something is worth but instead talk about the history of the items and how they may have come to be buried there? Why not knock at the homeowners door and give them the items as a memento or at least offer them? Why not donate some items to the local History Centers near the land you hunt? Talking money = hurting the hobby and making some home/land owners leery of letting anyone hunt their property. Talking about the history of items, donating them & teaching people ethics = Win. It's hard to get angry at a show that teaches about the history of items. It's real easy to get angry at a show that doesn't properly represent a hobby and the people who enjoy it. That being said, you have to be sincere about it as well. You may fool a few newbie's or wannabe's with some of the shows content but the true treasure hunters are much smarter than that.

I like what WIT had to say.
If you show and talk about how and why the item might have gotten there
I think you might get people interested in the right way.
Even some made up guesses as to how things were lost could be fun.
"This old nickel was maybe the weeks allowance for a little kid who had saved it along with others
and he was on they way to the county fair when he dropped it."
"That pulltab was a poor mans fishing lure that had caught the biggest fish ever".

Wanna watch me recover the Henning Nickel hoard?

I have located where the 186,000 nickels are but I need the backing to recover them. Could be a good opportunity for the show.

Wow, combine these ideas and it will be a hit. Show the true side of this hobby like trash, heat, bad weather. History is what draws alot of interest. Civil War relics hold much history, how did it get there, how to preserve it, never say how much it may be worth. Donate to museums. Ethics discussed at begining of each show. enthusiasm (sp?) is fine, have fun because thats what it is about. If I wasnt having fun, I would do something else.

For all those that aren't in it for the 'money' here's an idea for you.

Like fishing it's called the catch and release program. If you find anything of value like money, or jewelery, admire it, then bury it again and cover those holes really good and leave those items for me I'll gladly take em

Now for show ideas, sorry, but I don't work for free

I concur with the suggestion to downplay the dollar amounts for items found. In fact, I would suggest dropping it altogether. I believe all reality shows are CANCER and there fore should all be CANCELLED!!! Put the emphasis on interesting finds and PUTTING THE HOBBY IN A POSITIVE LIGHT and you MIGHT have a chance of winning me over...although a very small chance it would be.

Diggers has a real chance to be a success, I watch the 1st 2 episodes and I really had no problem with it, that's not to say things could have been done better. Little things like showing how to dig a nice plug and then putting it back so the ground looked untouched can go a long way for all of us. After watching American Diggers cutting down trees and breaking up concrete to reach a target really makes us look bad and will eventually hurt our hobby. Any targets found should have a little history lesson and should not be seen as dollar signs, if a value is put on something during the show be realistic about it unlike American Diggers. I also wouldn't be afraid to show trash targets being dug, that is just a real part of metal detecting. A shot of all the trash dug at the end of the show and showing someone bringing it to the trash can to dispose of properly will also make us look good.

Fail. Show episodes where there isn't a magic trick at the end. Show episodes where your knuckles bleed and your knees ache and you simply haven't found a billion dollars in the ground.

(caveat: I haven't seen "Diggers", I've seen "American Diggers", or something. If the program in question already doesn't show unreal success every episode, ignore my suggestion. If it does, this is unrealistic.)

Keep your show in a small size tin box and bury it some where in the worst area possible so anyone with a detector would just pass you by , My opinion , Thanks to all detector show like yours, I have gone out to see the crater size holes in my area because of the dumb asses out there who get excited about this false hype that comes from these shows . Its getting to a point where your company will destroy this simple hobby for all , Thanks for the memories .Can't wait to see the day when you have to seek permission from the king and queen Obama who will force you just like england to give up your finds to the crown of the Obama land

You can't fix this. You and your production company dropped the ball and fumbled it so badly that you need to be taken off the field and replaced. Quit now and go away before you damage our hobby even more. Seems you should have asked these questions BEFORE you made fools of us all..

He asked me to get in contact with some detectorists and help come up with some show ideas, places and some things we would like to see. I am suppose to get him a contact list of supporters that would like to help. This is not a list for people who hated the premere and want to tell him what a black eye this will give us. This is for people who want to help shape the show to make it better than it already was. We are still going to use the silly terms and get excited about a dumb coin, there is going to be more about ethics and such. They are aware of the issues that have been expressed and are working on them, so if you guys have any ideas on what you would like to see we would sure be grateful. And if some of you have ideas for sites that would be awsome also. Thanks

Hey, I’ve picked on them as much as any one, but honestly, all of this controversy is just feeding those producers to produce more of the same. Nothing more they want to see then a pile of hate mail continuing to stacking up, just insures them that they are reaching viewers, creating controversy, and that those viewers are watching and will continue to watch. Look at a lot of the other reality shows still airing today, it’s a sure bet that they receive a mountain of hate mail each month and that they have from day one. Truth is, you’re not going to stop these shows with hate mail, you’re just going to fuel their motivation to produce more of the same.

The question was asked about making the show better, so better to answer the question and hope they listen then to keep inspiring their producers with continued motivation for more of the same, or worse yet, an increase of the same.

Don't look like you will get any help here..... Those first 2 shows were really bad..... But i guess you know that now.......... But the only ones you will get any help from are ones that think they have a chance to be on the show........ So they can be on TV or make some cash...............Those one's will be kissing your butt you know...........
