It's dangerous to be right when those with a thimbleful of perceived authority are wrong.
Looks like a very early model Brit export P40. Sweet post.

Amazing.
For you guys interested in this stuff look up, "The Lady Be Good"...I have the hardback book but I am am sure the story is online somewhere...amazing, tragic, and profoundly interesting story of a U.S. bomber lost in the deserts of Libya during WW II and found by oil exploration crews years later.
The desert environment is an amazing preservation environment...when powered up radios still worked, tire was still inflated..
Worth the time if you enjoy aviation and military history.
The faster I go the behinder I get...

Is that the story where they found one of the pilots diary talking about slowly dying from lack of food and water?
I believe I read that story, very sad.

Have you read that during a recent visit to Singapore by our Prime Minister, it was revealed that 20 Spitfires had been found. I believe that negotiations are taking place, so that we can go and retrieve them.

There are a few posts here about that. Interesting story, I can't wait to see them reassembled.

When the going gets wierd, the wierd turn pro....
Most of that b24 is still in Libya at an airbase there. I wonder if anyone will ever try to get it now that things are changing over there.

That P-40 site is about 30 miles from the Farafra Oasis in Egypt (as the crow flies). Been through that area a few years back. Nothing much there, although Dakhla is incredible.
