    Water witching and dowsing
I went to that link you posted. It had some interesting points. If dowsing is real it could be demonic I guess. It certainly is an unexplainable "power" so who is to say. I have always felt that in life there is nothing for free, so if someone has tapped into dowsing "power" I wonder what they are having to give up for that power? I wonder if they are even aware that in order to get, you have to give. Doesn't seem like a fair trade, you have the ability to find water at the cost of your soul. I'll keep using the sink

I have no idea if dowsing is real or not. Why are dowsers not filthy rich by finding all of the lost treasure. How come some can only find water and not gold. It seems like a bunch of hocus pocus to me, but if you are a dowser and you really really think you have the "power" I would suggest you go prove James Randi wrong and win his million dollar offer. You would never have to work another day of your life. Just my two cents

Well if you know anything about ouija boards, I feel like it's along the same lines. It's a trick of Satan to lure people over into the occult. I don't want to make anyone mad here, but that's what I believe.

No, dowsing is bunk. Here in Oregon people in my own family have dowsed for water and dug wells and struck water most every time. Thing of it is, there is friggin water everywhere......

Put some rods in their hands and ask them to find some gold..... whole different story.

Whole lot of excuses.... not buried long enough, stars weren't aligned, the moon is in Jupiter, solar flares, I dunno.... pretty lame if you ask me.

One thing i always ask myself, if the makers of fancy dowsing equipment knew what they were doing, and dowsing really works..... why are they selling dowsing equipment?

After all, they should be rich after finding all that buried pirate loot shouldn't they?

Treasure4pleasure, jeffro and shoot, I couldnt agree with you more. If it is real it's wicked but more than likely its baloney.

Why are these dowsers not the richest people in the world? Same reason the psychic Sylvia Brown hasn't won the lottery. Or go on the James Randi show and prove him wrong. It's more childsplay than anything or maybe just wickedness.

How come everytime someone does a scientific study, these so called dowsers fail on bucket tests almost 100% of the time. I Just seen a special on it, not to long ago, and not one person that claimed to have the "gift" passed the test. As for it being mentioned in the bible, so is a boat that carried 2 every living thing on this earth to save them from a flood. Which means all the animals in the Americas had to swim across the ocean to get on a boat so they wouldn't drown in a flood. Maybe we shouldn't believe everything we read. If you do believe in it hit me up I have a fresh batch of snake oil to sell. It'll cure all you aches and pains. Honest.

As I said, I can dowse electricial cables, telephone cables and waterlines, but that is the extent of it, I can't douse gold or treasure............

I want to add to my post and say that I had two other lots subdivided right next to the one my neighbor found the place to pound the well. On the first lot the well drillers got a fail - I think 3gpm then we had a moderate success in another spot at about 8gpm. On the other lot they did succeed at also less than 10gpm - having to go down very deep. That was the result of random guessing and /or well drillers knowledge of what might be a good spot based on terrain.

I believe my neighbor found the right spot somehow and something led him to find it - he said it was his dowsing rods

Maybe because there is water all over underground. Dig deep enough and you are bound to hit it at some point right?

Dowsing doesn't work for everybody. Some can and some can't dowse. I never thought I had the gift of dowsing until an old man showed me how to dowse. You can be taught to dowse by someone experienced in doing it, but you will never be able to match natural abilities of one who has them. Just like anything else. practice makes perfect, whether you are talking about playing sports or painting a picture. practice goes a long way. Now that I have been doing it for years, and doing all kinds of dowsing, I find that I now have developed my senses to an extra sensitive level of awareness. I can now see things i coud never have seen before because of my mental block. There is nothing impossible, but it takes faith to believe in what you are doing and practice to make it work. I have tired to teach playing guitar to some people who believed they could not learn to do it, and they didn't. But I have taught several who thought they could learn and did. Your mental state has much to do with it. Good luck. rockhound

I believe there is something to it but not sure what...lol. I recently spoke to someone that dowsed a farm field. He claims he did it from different directions then set up strings to where it pointed. Once he had three lines crossing he metal detected the area and was able to find old coins. Who knows?? I'll have to try it one day but right now I way to busy so when I have spare time I will stick to what has worked for me in the past.

Tell that to the people I know right now who are trying to build five miles away from where my lots are and have drilled as far as the well company will go 3 times and haven't hit it yet.

Wow. I can imagine this is a touchy subject here.

I think it's hoakum, bad science, and selective reasoning. No dowser (of any sort) has ever proven any efficiency beyond chance using the scientific method. If you can, there is (literally) a million bucks in it for you, but I don't want to open THAT can of beans.

I was actually hunting for the thread where someone claimed a 12" (or more) dime find with an Ace 250, I think. A couple of people all but called him a liar. I found it amusing that on a site where many believe in dowsing and LRLs, some would find issue with a person finding a dime, at depth, with an entry-level machine.

I, for one, believed the guy. Ground conditions and environment play a big part. For example, you wouldn't think the factory radio in my truck would receive out-of-state FM transmissions, but for a brief period a few months ago I was getting interference from an FM station 400 miles away. It was overriding a station 60 miles away.

At any rate, I think people will believe what they want to believe, and I think dowsers actually believe they are "dowsing". Some people believe where the stars were located when they were born can provide them with a daily fortune. Some people believe in bigfoot, others believe they have been abducted by aliens.

I remember when I first came here and saw that this forum had a dowsing forum I had to take a double look. THis forum is great, and noooo I am not saying they should get rid of the dowsing forum here. I was just shocked that it was being taken so seriously. I started reading the threads and felt like I was at a Sylvia Brown session. These were intelligent, well adjusted people talking about dowsing like it was really real lol. ANyways to each their own. If you want to believe in dowsing by all means. I just don't understand why you won't go win yourself 1 million dollars from James Randi.

Because under a real, double blind test, dowsing doesn't work.

When I was in high school, oh-so many years ago, we had a shop teacher who showed us how to "dowse" water pipes under concrete. He really believed in this, by the way.

He handed us some cut-off coat hangers and had us hold them balanced between our palms and first fingers. As we walked across the water line, they would cross. Thing is, we could see the spigot on the wall and knew damned well where the water line was. I bet we had an 80% success rate. MY wires crossed at the appropriate time.

Thing is, hide the spigot and we'd have been all over the board.

I tried an experiment one time years back with metal rods that I read in a book. A pile of copper coins versus a pile of silver coins. One pile they crossed, the other they seperated. Was it involuntary movement on my behalf

I did try dowsing a water line in the back yard...nada!

But I still believe in water witching.

I understand that the British while in India discovered water with greater frequency after they began witching the wells. It was more profitable to dig in the right place. In the 70s I looked at a piece of property with two of my co-workers and the owner handed us brass welding rods and told us how to use them. I was the only one of us that was able to get them to work. The owner went over the area and we watched the rods move just like mine had, confirming the same spot. I did not buy the place but today there is a hand dug well on that very spot. I witched a well on my present property and it came in at 9 gal per minute. Unfortunately it was high in mineral salts and not drinkable. We had drilled past 2 gal a min so were able to salvage the well with a reservoir. I do think it is more reliable than a ouiji board. I always think the other guy is pushing it.

Try switching hands, the one that moves out now crosses. It has to do with polarity and your electric field. Electricity keeps us alive after all. Back when they sold cheap watches I would stop one dead in a few days. That is why they are all antimagnetic today; just to many witches out there.

Why is it that salmon can be trained to return to a different river by acclimatizing for a few weeks? Why are there so many cases of dogs getting away hundreds of miles from home on a trip only to find their way home? Why can a pigeon be placed in a box and released miles from home to have it return? Have you ever had the hair on the back of your neck stand up and turn around and catch someone staring at you? Electricity? Magnetism? I try to keep on open mind. I am 99% sure I am digging a pull tab but dig anyway. I still run out and buy another discriminating detector and end up digging everything. I can just blame Satin for me not finding anything.

If it was real then scientist's would be able to prove it. Not one single dowser in the whole wide world has ever been able to prove James Randi wrong and win his million dollar offer. If electrical or magnetic fields were the cause then children's toys would start moving across the yard by themselves. People would walk outside with coathangers and they would bend downward or start crossing. Many people can trick themselves into thinking there are ghosts in their house or that the boogyman is outside in the woods so I can see how people really believe that they have some "magical" gift when in reality it's all in their head. If believing in that ype of stuff makes you happy then by all means go for it. To me it's just voodoo hocus pocus and honestly a waste of time. This is my opinion of course
