I live in the Midwest and don't really have the need to purchase a beach sand scoop so I decided to make my own and post the EXTREMELY simple instructions.

I took a plastic Folgers can and my cordless drill with a 1/2 bit and drilled the heck out of it's sides and bottom. It works really well and the benefit of using plastic is..once I locate a target and scoop up some sand, I can wave it over the top of my coil while it is laying on the ground. If the target is in the scoop simply shake out the sand and viola! if the md does not go off obviously I can dump the sand and scoop again. I made this last week and went to the park and picked up about 8 bucks is clad including a 4 dollar pocket spill of quarters! this cheap scoop saved me a lot of time sifting through the sand and trying to use my pp. HH
