Another Dead post! Why don't people just ask a question instead of digging up an old post and jumping on the wagon? Frank five star.png

Wow, who ressurects such old posts :) But now that it's ressurected: Super-traq is right: It's an old wive's tale that caches are .... of necessity, going to be 6 or 10 ft, 2 or 3 meters etc.... This lore is always more pronounced in 3rd world cultures/nations. Has anyone noticed that?

But for anyone here's who's ever dug 6 to 10 ft. deep outhouse pits (bottle diggers), or anyone who's been in military boot-camp digging foxholes, you KNOW how time and energy consuming it is, to dig a 6 ft. deep hole.

Stop and think about it though: If the surface of the ground is covered back up after burying/hiding a cache, then WHAT THE HECK DIFFERENCE does 1 ft, versus 6 ft. mean? If it's invisible from the surface, then NO AMOUNT of additional depth "hides" it any better.

As always, Tom in CA makes a great point.
Digging deep is tuff.
How many times have you pinpointed a steady deep target while detecting only to realize you don't really want the hassle of a deep target. Since I imply always dig, I dig. I'm talking 10"-12"s. I couldn't imagine digging a 6' deep cache. It would take days...
Peace ✌

Product DescriptionWhen you find a coin, the GTI detectors will tell you what kind of coin it is: a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter, a half dollar, or a dollar. The GTI 2500 lets you sift out the trash and concentrate on the treasure, making the hunt far more productive than with any other detector manufactured! This is possible thanks to the secret ingredient in the GTI series exclusive Digital Signal Processing (DSP) chip With some detectors it’s impossible to know whether a detected target is junk or treasure until you dig it up. Because different targets share similar conductivities, detecting what you think is a quarter may well be an aluminum can. The GTI 2500 TRUE size and depth technology enables you to determine whether a detected target is junk or treasure. Dig no more aluminum cans! Garrett’s GTI detectors are the only detectors in the world that provide true size and depth.

Search Deeper For More Treasures! And now the GTI-2500 PRO includes the Super Deep Treasure Hound Depth Multiplier with Eagle Eye Pinpoint. Search for larger, deeper targets Scan 15 to 20 feet for buried treasure caches and other hidden valuables. With the Eagle Eye front coil, you get precise and accurate pinpointing on small treasure items. Switch from 2 coil searching to conventional pinpoint mode with the touch of a button. Made exclusively for the Garrett GTI-2500 Pro.

Karl Von Mueller was pretty on the spot when he said people seldom bury a cache more than an arm's length deep and usually less.

Bet these detectors can find a large treasure chest at least to 10 feet, not that someone (like the rest of you have been saying) would go through all that trouble to bury a small cache of coins, gold and/or jewelry that deep though. That'd border on insanity. If any of you watched 'The Curse of Oak Island' on the History Channel, than I guess it (might) be possible there might be a vast, ancient underground storage chamber full of priceless treasures and (yes), I think whoever buried something over 200' down would have buried something (very) valuable and/or very deadly like the Ark of the Covenant was supposed to be; (read the Old Testament where it says this gold-layered storage box, capacitor, or whatever it might have been) would have killed anyone on the spot who dared to touch the object. Going on the assumption someone or more than likely, a group of individuals (did) bury something down below one of those more modern test shafts. But if there is nothing down there or anywhere else on the island, than that's a HECK of a lot of digging for (nothing) which has been going on there for centuries. There's been, for ages, speculation that the Ark of the Covenant may have been an ancient electrical capacitor. So why so deep? Maybe that's why. To keep it well away from harming anyone. I'm sure we're safe to say that the Garrett Eagle Eye Treasure Hound would (not) reach that depth. Very nice setup though H-2 Charlie. :tongue3::hello2::hello::headbang::laughing7::icon_thumleft:

I got to tell you, no matter how many coils you hang on a vlf detector, you aren't going to get what a true 2 Box detector will give you in the way of depth.
I had the older Garrett shown here and it was maxed out at 3' on a 5 gal bucket size target. My old Hays 2 Box has found caches at 6' in the low setting.
I just assemble it, adj coil angle, adjust sensitivity and detect. Frank five star.png

An excavator. No detector ever made will do what you are asking.

PS, nobody buried things that deep, don;t take treasure stories as gospel. Even the true ones are 90% fake.
