I found a beautiful 2 cent piece and I can see the detail under the grime that is on the top of the coin, but I can't seem to get the grime off. I have it soaking in olive oil now, and occassionially take it out and softly rub it with a mild cloth, but I've seem to hit an impass on how much dirt comes off each time I do that. There is an amazing amount of detail under the dirt that I would like to bring up without damaging the coin. Any suggestions??

Well, maybe just more than a day or two in the oil.

I know when cleaning my ancients I've had to soak some of them for quite some time. (approx a month)

I really don't know if it made all the much of a difference, but it sure couldn’t hurt.
I mean rather then trying anything extreme too soon.

When you’ve about run out of patients, then try something else ;)
