It's been nearly two months since I have been able to get out and do some "prospecting"! First came the hunting season that lasted part of two months and then the snow storm that still has most of the ground covered. The streets are just now drivable. But now I have to take my wife Christmas shopping. She has MS and has a lot of trouble driving any more so I am the chauffer. I just sit around in the mall and admire the beauties while she hits the sales. I always have a detector with me in case I see a likely spot to check out near the malls. But right now all the grassy areas are covered with snow. I'm about to go stir crazy! I have been married almost 36 years and I still don't enjoy much of anything that woman does and vice versa! I guess it's true that opposites attract? I guess maybe this should go under rants but Lordy Lordy, I need a fix bad! :'( Monty

Monty, while at the mall why not visit the fountain or water pool and see how many Canadian coins you can snag with a magnet on fishing line.

There is always the walking the parking lot fence looking for stray dollar bills that get blown there. Check out the snow piles for lost valuables.

You can always pass the time by hanging a Mistletoe on your hat brim to see how many lovely gals will honor you. Don't do like I do and stick it on your butt...... ;D

I hear ya Monty! I've been out a few times total this year. 2 of those were recoveries of lost rings. Those always make me wonder why I can't find more of them on my own.

I am hoping the weather is nice next week. All this snow-melt will finally soften the ground up, and the wife is going out of town for work.

Well Monty.....
Maybe we should all send you a mason jar of sand with some coins and trinkets mixed in , and you could dump it all out and detect away .....
I would send you one with my astoundinging finds, but I cant figure out how to fit a rusty horseshoe into a jar yet...

You know those little sandbox things they were selling to put on people desks with little rocks and shells in them and a small rake, ....its suppose to be relaxing....We could make one for treasure hunters....probally make a bundle....put coins, pulltabs, foil
,nails in them....hahahahah.....Could use our pinpointers to detect them....LOL :)

My Winter Greeting for everyone is " Do you have a dirt floor in your basement?"

Equestrian centers and some rodeo grounds have huge covered structures; no snow on the ground! I checked one out here and they said they'd have no problem with me detecting in the rings. Might snoop around and see if there is one where you live.

Get on the coin roll hunting forum. When there is several feet on snow on the ground you will be searching for silver inside your toasty home.

Finding silver is always fun.

Monty,
Look for sunny hillsides where the snow evaporates quicker. Preferrably hillsides with trees where there might not be as much snow on the ground to begin with. Wear some good waterproof boots and/or carry a shovel or broom that you can use to brush some of the snow aside before you detect. Even if you don't find anything, you'll at least relieve the cabin fever somewhat. Good Luck.

When I have days like that, I read old treasure magazines and surf around the net looking at various metal detecting sites.

Ok so heres the deal. We travel around with the 4x4 and motocross outfits that do the big dome shows. During the day when the track isnt being used we hold treasure hunts,in a certain area of the track, A guy could pay like ten bucks and hunt for seeded coins. Could put in pulltabs nails and bury some of the coins with other targets to make it rough on them. Anything that wasnt found could be scooped up and trucked to the next site.no,no,no
What I meant was this new treasure hunting game that is for the pc. One level you pick the detector and what sort of area you want to hunt this round. On the screen you see the display from your detectors box and you have to like pick your digging tools and the things you want to carry out to the site, but if you dont pack carefully beware... On another level you have to research a certain ship from the spanish fleet, but you only have so much time to file your papers and pay the robbers in FL their blood money,if you run into govt.red-tape another underhanded treasure seeker can move in on your finds, grease a couple of the right palms and scadaddle with all the loot to Nevada to
