Silver Recovered From Iron Buckle!

Yesterday I dug a huge buckle of some sort and it had a very thick silver plating. It had rusted pretty bad and the silver had started to bubble up. I decided to peel some off, and before long i had peeled a pile! I put it on the scale and it weighed in at 1.4 grams. I balled it all up in a spoon and some dirt fell off of it, so I continued rolling it in my fingers until no more rust and dirt fell off. I then melted it into a puddle. After the puddle cooled, I gave it a few heavy smacks with a hammer and I had myself a silver coin. It weighs in at 1.2 grams! Goes to show you how much silver is out there that may end up in the trash. Try to save your silver plating, it adds up!

LOL Yes it is my first! The neat thing is that it was an 1850s buckle, so the silver is very old.

It would be neat to clean up the 1850 steel buckle and replate it with your reclaimed silver that may be millions of years old.
