Sunday the weather was fine and I went dsetecting along a creek where there used to be a road. I was really into it and had just dug up a large buckle when I heard some noise in the grass. I looked up and not 10 feet away is a Coyote. The Coyote stopped in its tracks whenn it saw me.
We looked at each other a while then I said "COYOTE" pretty loudly. Then it turned and scampered off. Neither one of us felt threatened, and I
thought it was an amazing moment.

They are awesome critters and know their place in the food chain. 99.9 % of the time a happenstance encounter will end this way.

Coyotes definitely need to be respected but it sounds like an awesome encounter with one. There is something about coyotes that just warrant awe.

whenever I encounter wildlife, I just give them my wolf-eyes and they run away whimpering

Now see I love this. Love love love it. That connection you had, be it brief, but that eye contact .. That's awesome. After readings about all the ways people like killing them on here... This just rocks. I love those random encounters with wildlife. Me and a deer surprised each other in the woods one day . She started snorting and stomping her hoof and giving me head nods. I jumped up on a fallen tree, and sang to her in a baby voice .. Lol, don't know why , just felt right. She really didnt know what to make of me .. Lol . I reached my hand out to her and she sniffed the air and took off.. Lol

I cannot believe I'm asking this, but what did you sing to a deer?

Why would you run Jeff. Sorry, I couldn't help it. Lol
Cool encounter with the coyote.
I seen a squirrel here twice last month. And a bonus turtle!
Gators here know their place on the food chain also.
Little interesting wildlife here.
We have alot of dawgs though. Lol

My Remington sings to them for me at 4000 fps .....well not really the 55 gr. polymer tip boat tail gets there before they even hear the report. Some of us obviously have different encounters. I have the utmost respect for natures furbearers as I do the many animals they prey on, domestic and wild. They are a part of our eco system that unfortunately is out of balance in my area as well as others.

I was up on Battle Mountain one day. The Orchard ranch, in Wyoming. A coyote chased a mule deer around the summit passed me. The deer did not see me. The coyote did. He stopped dead in his tracks and stared at me. The deer was obviously having fun... turned and chased the coyote back around where they came from. I'll probably never live long enough to see that repeated! TTC
