You east coasters have your own set of environmental problems, and those guys in the bug-infested Mississippi river valley have theirs too. But us guys out here in the desert southwest have goat weed! For you botanists it's Epimedium. The pointy little barbs on their seed pods stick to everything! One co-hunter swears they won't stick to all leather soles, but I got news for him! After this morning's hunt, I even had to pull a number of those little buggers out of my coil cover! Drats!

Thanks, I needed that!

It isn't just the desert southwest...I live in southern Idaho at 4500', and we have goatheads here, too.

They're all over Texas.
Known there as Doveweed, as dove and other fowl feed on their seed.
But cattle don't seem to like it.
Hope that stuff's not migrating east!
It thrives in dry sandy area's.

Well, I can tell you this, My dogs have all hated the goatshead. Second only to those long cactus stickers with the barbed points that you have to cut out, or let fester out if you are squeamish. Frank...

In Texas we also have this stuff called ******* Cabbage. Its taking over like crazy, and its pretty tough to knock down with a weed eater. Makes your allergies go nuts!!! We use pear burners to burn the unwanted plants. They are propane torches burn all the prickly unwanted plants before they SPREAD!!!

Oh man, I hate goat heads, especially when they're nice a ripe. The green ones burn like crazy and they always seem to stuck in the end of your sock when they're in the wash.

Come on. Don't hate Goatheads, they might be a cure for something.
We've been in a drought so the last real good Goathead bloom was 2006. This year is a bit better. Now my poor dogs will be hobbling up to me to pull them out.
Goatheads must be good for something. I mean I can even make a fair soup from Tumbleweeds (young ones).
Ya Frankin, the fishhook cactus. Mean plant.

I'm printing this. I probably have some of those problems. Even if not I've got a great crop of Goatheads and it's easier than panning. Maybe I'll try hawking them at the growers market.
