I found this button in Petaluma, CA and I would like to know if any of you know what it could be. It was right on top of the surface!

"crossed rifles". And the 5c refers to company/regiment # or whatever. Dates to post turn-of-century. (early 1900s). Probably from the influence in your area from Benica military (where those type buttons or collar pins actually) are a common find, or San Francisco military.
