A Saturday Morning Drive...

We made a short trip this morning to an area not far from home.
Oh.. I've been to this location many times over the past 50 years or so.
I just needed to get away from all the bad news that seems to be at every turn... and to be a step closer to my Lord!

Reliance is a small unincorporated community in Polk County, Tennessee... and a river runs through it.
The river is the Hiwassee, which has about the best trout fishing and coldest water in the state. We went up river to the Appalachian Powerhouse and back. We were only away from home for about four hours... and worth every minute!

This is a short YouTube video and best viewed full screen... so you can see the trout jump better!

Hope you like it...
-Wayne

Most of the land along the river is National Forest.. off-limits.
Private land is hard to get permission... and you better have it or get shot!
The good news is Coker Creek comes into the Hiwassee about 250 yards above the powerhouse which does have gold and you can pan the creek.

Number 9 , take a couple of light weight camp chairs with you , park at Big Bend parking lot , hit the John Muir trail down stream , until you come to a place where you can tell a lot of people get out of their boats there. It is at the bottom of a stair step rapid. It is called " lunch stop" because everyone stops for lunch there in their boats. If you crawl down into the water off the bank , it is a little deep at first but then you walk out to an shoals. It is a great place to take a chair and spend the day. Very scenic.

Was a time before Big Bend Parking Lot were you could turn back down river in a Jeep and run that edge your're talking about.
Even had a nice camping area.
