Hi All.
Today I found a small 18k ear ring. Initially, I thought it to be fake, from color alone. It seemed to "dark" to be real. I thought plated copper. Hate when I'm wrong. ;)
Once home, I compared its color to 10k and 14k finds I have. The gold color is much more brilliant and darker, obviously.
This 18k ear ring, showed up as 62-65 TID/VDI, on my new Fisher F-70. This reading usually shows 10k gold on my other machines?
I've never found 22k, but want for comparison alone, as my electronic gold tester reads 18k and below only.
Please always check your, "gold", finds. Start with a magnet. If it sticks, it's plated. If not, check more thoroughly. If you don't own a gold tester, either "acid" or "electronic", take every questionable find to a jeweler. Testing is usually free. Also know, acid tests can damage valuable pieces.
Good luck and HH.
Merry Christmas!!!
Peace
