just do your own research. I wouldnt get any vaccinations from now on or give my baby any either! I have done enough research that lead me to believe that with a healthy immune system you will be okay. The flu will last a couple of days. I try to just stay hydrated, rest or sometimes even do some sort of activity to sweat it out. Some oTC meds will do. I know of 2 kids that died from flu shots. All vaccines contain Mercury, which is used as a preservative and is very toxic to our bodies. Many vaccines nowadays are being linked to ADHD, Autism, brain damage, learning disabilities,etc.............People have forgotten to read in these times and just believe everything on the news! Dr's and Pharmaceuticals will push you to get shots because they profit from them and profit ALOT! Thats what they care about!

With a good immune system, you might be able to fight it, but if you are like me and have to take drugs everyday that suppress your immune system, I urge you to get a flu shot. It is a matter of the lesser of evils.

Also, ONLY the multi-dose vials have Thimerosal in them. That is because they need to protect against contamination. If you get the single dose vial (which is all I've ever seen used at my doctors or the nurses where I work) there is no mercury preservatives in it because there is no Thimerosal. Just to set everyone's mind at ease.

I have been getting one for 12 years, as long as I have been taking these drugs, and I noticed that I don't get sick nearly as much as I did BEFORE the Immunosuppressive chemotherapy drugs. My work supplies the shots.

I was in the military for 23 years and forced to get a flu shot every year, and yes, I got sick every one of those years. I retired in 2006 and declined getting the shot and have never been sick. My wife was a Navy nurse with the same results.
There are two types of shots, one of which is a live virus and one is not. Ask first, as if you get the live virus you will have symptoms.

Interesting topic... my screen name compels me to comment lol. I have never had a flu shot and I have never had the flu. Most of my friends and family members get the shot every year and most of them end up getting sick during the winter. I agree with most of the previous comments. The seasonal flu strain may differ from the vaccine strain etc. I also believe the vaccine compromises the immune system enough to make it easier for healthy people to get the flu or other seasonal diseases.

With that said I think the vaccine is helpful for those with suppressed immune systems due to disease or other medications. If they're lucky and the vaccine matches the seasonal strain then it can shorten their bout and lessen the symptoms. Its a chance worth taking for those people.

I got the flu exactly once in my 58 years.

The ONE time that I had a flu shot!

(however my ex. the nurse, happened to give me that one).....go figure.

Now the only shot that I'll take says Jim Beam on it.

All I know is that I never had a shot until I was in the hospital with a foot infedtion. "You're 64 now, you need a flu shot, we'll give it to you". Yeah, a day later and for a year I had very little use of my left arm. Pain, tremors, weakness. Took 1 1/2 years to return to nearly normal. Still some pain. Never again...

OK, here are the facts as I see them. The flu shot is a good thing for many, but not all. I very rarely get sick, I guess because I have a very strong immune system. That being said, in the last 30 years of my life, I have gotten the flu 3 times, and I got the flu right after (within a day or two) of getting the flu shot. This is a fact. The last time I got a flu shot was about 20 years ago, and I haven't gotten the flu since. This doesn't mean that I will never get the flu, or that the flu shot doesn't work. I believe that it works great for some, but with others, it can be dangerous. I have a good friend that is 88 years old, and he recently got the flu shot. The next day he was sick as a dog, and had to go to the Doctor. The Doctor even admitted that this was a reaction caused by the actual shot. For those with a compromised immune system, the flu shot is probably a good thing, but for me, nope, never again.

I listened to a Dr on TV say that "you can not get the flu from the shot", and this might be true, but can you get very very sick from the shot.....YES you can.

I do agree it is not necessary for everyone to get the flu shot. There are forumulas which tell you what percentage of the population need flu shots to avoid the 1918 type disaster, and that percentage is not 100%. There is no reason to persecute those who do not want vaccines, though I do agree I am not sure parents have the right to risk their offspring's future based on their own belief.

I get the flu shot every year, and have never been sick as a result. My wife avoided it for a long time, but after several major flu illnesses, while I ran around with a smile on my face, she now gets them too, and also has never got sick as a result. The plural of anecdote is not data.

I live in Mexico. The year of the Swine Flu epidemic, when I came back from a visit to the US, a pharmacist friend told me they were having a lot of kids with strange respiratory grippa. I drove a little niece to a special private hospital an hour away because her lungs were filling and had to be aspirated every half hour day and night.

The Department of Health was taking these reports, and did nothing, until California told them what they had, as they saw it coming in from Mexico.

Then, the local medicos went wild. Anyone entering a doctor's office was handed a mask. Anyone entering the government hospital was handed a mask and they had their names and addresses recorded. All touch surfaces in the hospital were disinfected twice a day. Everyone was told to wash their hands often, not a tradition in Mexico. In this community, not one person died of H1N1, and very few actually had full blown cases. One women after Caserean almost died of it, but not a single family member including the new baby got it. Mexico City shut down for several days.

Several years later, people still wear a mask when they get sick, and still wash their hands a lot. The entire health profile of this part of Mexico has changed due to the education.

Things did not go so well in the USA.

I've never had a flu shot. And I've had the "real flu" only one time in the winter of '72...
real flu is when your fever is over 101 for a week or so. Everything hurts... even your hair!
I think it's funny when people say... "I missed work yesterday because I had the flu"... yeah..right!:laughing7:

I don't really trust being told.. "everyone needs to get one".
Everyone is different and you can't be sure how you will react to any drug! it's a personal choice.

I really don't trust our country's medical system and Big Pharma is on my same list!

I read the other day that the FDA gets half it's funding from the large pharmaceuticals, could this really be true!?
Wouldn't this be the same as having the fox guard the hen house!?

I do a lot of research before using anything for medicine!!

At the current time I take no prescription drugs on a regular basis... not even aspirin.
The only thing I take is herbs, if at all possible I try to avoid man-made or synthetic drugs.
I'm 65 years old and I'm either real lucky or doing something right!?:laughing7:

I've never had a cold that I can remember? I've never been admitted to a hospital.
I'll probably go out like a light bulb some day!?

I've noticed you have been posting in the TN Health section... Are you in the medical field?

Girl falls asleep 30 times a day since taking the flu vaccine | News.com.au

IT WAS supposed to be a simple vaccine against swine flu, but since she had it, Chloe Glasson's life has been like a bad dream.

Just four months after being given the Pandemrix injection, the 15-year-old schoolgirl developed the sleeping disorder narcolepsy.
Now, without warning, she falls asleep up to 30 times a day wherever she is.
Naturally, this has made her life at school challenging, as she often drops off in class. But it is also potentially dangerous.
Chloe recently went missing for two hours after going into a "dreamlike autopilot" state while making a short journey to her grandmother's house. She eventually found her own way home safely, but not before her terrified family had contacted police, amid fears of what might have happened to her.
Now she is hoping a pioneering treatment will help her to establish a more normal sleeping pattern. She is to receive the specialist drug sodium oxybate - at a cost of $23,000 a year - at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

"I am putting a lot of faith in the treatment," Chloe told The Daily Mail.
"While the tablets won't cure me, they may offer the chance of a more normal life."
Vaccinated with Pandemrix in November 2009 during a flu pandemic, she is one of at least 100 people estimated to have developed narcolepsy afterwards.
Studies have found a tenfold increase in the risk of developing the disorder after the jab.
Chloe's mother Rebecca, said that her daughter's life "has been devastated after we followed government advice to have her immunised against the threat of swine flu.
"She has gone from being a bright, outgoing girl to one who cannot go out on her own.
"She doesn't doze for more than a couple of hours at a time, but she can have disturbing dreams.
"We desperately hope this new treatment will help."
The UK Government revealed in September that it would pay damages to some of those who developed problems after being given the Pandemrix vaccine before August 31, 2010.
Chloe's family hope she will receive the maximum compensation of $220,000.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency dropped the vaccine from its flu campaign in 2011.
Matt O'Neill, of the charity Narcolepsy UK, said they believe that "more than 100 people have developed narcolepsy because of the swine flu vaccine."
He added that families affected would meet to discuss the issue at the charity's conference in Birmingham this month.
GlaxoSmithKline, which makes Pandemrix, said: "Patient safety is our number one priority and we are researching how narcolepsy is triggered and how this vaccine might have interacted with other risk factors in affected individuals. We hope ongoing research efforts will enable us to provide more answers."
Narcolepsy is typically caused by the loss of neurons that produce a hormone that keeps people awake.
