An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
Actually, it has been reburied; this time in the basement of a two story building in Ft. Knox, Kentucky.

Out of curiosity, if something in the US is found that belonged to a famous historical figure such as Abraham Lincoln or George Washington, or from a significant event can the Government confiscate it if deemed a National Treasure? If they can, would you get compensated like over in England?

They found disme's the first dime ever. Think it was made in Jeffersons basement and they used a silver cook ware set that Washington owned. That's a pretty big find

IMOP....."Most" treasure legends in the US are just that...."legends." If it sounds to good to be true it likely is and if there's no documentation to support it then it probably never existed in the first place, or it was only a fraction of what it has been built up to be down through the years. Most of it is just wise tales and local lore, Bigfoot dressed in silver and gold.
"Treasure is wherever it can be found."

The greatest treasure was buried in the internet years ago and now you too have discovered TreasureNet. Welcome aboard!
